We have delivered a variety of bespoke minor surgery suites across multiple healthcare sectors, including cataract surgery, dermatology, dentistry, and general practice

Each minor theatre we design and construct is developed with a strong focus on hygiene and operational efficiency, while also maintaining an appealing aesthetic. Our goal is to create modern healthcare environments that feel safe, professional, and welcoming for both patients and staff.

What to consider when designing surgical spaces

Surgical spaces and theatres are carefully planned to maximise efficiency and maintain strict hygiene standards. Ben Johnson Interiors design and build each area with clear work zones, ensuring optimal workflow and patient safety. Preparation areas provide dedicated spaces for staff before procedures. The central surgical zone includes adjustable tables and directional lighting for flexibility. Utility zones focus on infection control, with clinical washbasins, elbow-operated taps, gloves, and designated waste and sharps disposal. Many spaces also include pre and post-surgical rooms and pass-through medical storage to minimise contamination and support high hygiene standards.

Precision in Finishes & Construction

In medical and surgical environments, every detail matters. Walls are clad in wipeable materials, floors are slip-resistant, and medical-grade ceilings are installed, with exposed pipework sealed for infection control. Ventilation, heating, and cooling systems are carefully designed with specialist partners to create clean, filtered air in theatres and pre-op areas. Fire safety and critical power needs are addressed, with UPS systems supporting essential medical equipment, including emergency devices like defibrillators.
