Sustainability is embedded in everything we do. Guided by our ISO 14001 accreditation, we focus on six core areas of environmental responsibility, from waste reduction and recycling to resource-efficient design and materials — creating spaces that are both beautiful and environmentally responsible.
Sustainable Sourcing
We take a responsible and forward-thinking approach to sourcing, ensuring that every product and material we specify aligns with our sustainability values. We partner only with suppliers and manufacturers who share our commitment to the environment, requiring accreditation to ISO 14001 standards or equivalent.
Our trusted network of partners embraces circular economy principles, incorporating cradle-to-cradle and upcycling strategies within their supply chains. This ensures that materials are reused, repurposed, or recycled wherever possible—minimizing waste and reducing environmental impact throughout a product’s lifecycle.
It’s in our DNA
At Ben Johnson Interiors, sustainability and social responsibility are shared values embedded across every level of our business. Everyone plays an active role—from our site teams to our design specialists—with ultimate accountability held at board level to ensure genuine leadership and long-term commitment.
We believe meaningful change starts with collective action. That’s why our people are encouraged to get involved in a wide range of environmental and community-focused initiatives throughout the year. From local litter collection drives and recycling campaigns to charitable fundraising events and volunteer programmes, our team takes pride in giving back and making a positive impact beyond the spaces we create.
Travel and Transport
We recognise that the way we travel has a significant impact on our environmental footprint. Wherever possible, we minimise travel through the use of cloud-based video conferencing for both internal collaboration and client meetings, reducing the need for unnecessary journeys while maintaining strong connections and communication.
When travel is essential, we encourage low-impact options such as car-sharing, the use of public transport, and efficient route planning to help cut emissions. To further reduce our carbon emissions and ease congestion, we offer a subsidised Cycle to Work scheme, supporting our team in choosing healthier and more sustainable travel alternatives.
Energy and Efficiency
We’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint by continuously improving the way we manage and monitor energy across our operations and projects.
Our approach includes the integration of intelligent lighting and heating systems that respond to occupancy and natural light levels, helping to minimize unnecessary energy use. We also champion the use of innovative water-saving technologies, such as waterless urinals, to conserve resources without compromising performance or hygiene. Through these initiatives, we not only reduce our carbon impact but also set a benchmark for sustainable design and construction practices—delivering spaces that are efficient, responsible, and built for the future.
Staff Wellbeing
We believe that our people are our greatest asset, and their health, happiness, and overall wellbeing are at the heart of everything we do. We’re proud to foster a supportive, inclusive workplace culture where every team member feels valued, motivated, and empowered to thrive both professionally and personally.
We offer a variety of initiatives designed to promote a healthy work–life balance and overall wellbeing. This includes daily fresh fruit in our offices, flexible working hours to accommodate individual needs, and encouragement to make the most of local walking routes. Our Cycle to Work scheme supports active commuting, helping reduce environmental impact while promoting physical fitness.
Monitoring
At Ben Johnson Interiors, we recognise that effective environmental management relies on transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement. That’s why we conduct regular reviews and audits across all our offices and project sites to ensure full compliance with our Environmental Policy and alignment with best practices in sustainability.
These reviews allow us to closely track performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement proactive measures that reduce our environmental impact. We set clear, measurable environmental targets—covering areas such as energy use, waste reduction, and sustainable sourcing—which are evaluated and updated annually to reflect our progress and evolving goals.
Climate Targets
We strongly believe in reducing the environmental impact of our fit-out and furniture supply chain. All products and materials selected for your project come from leading ISO14001 manufacturers, built to last with guarantees and warranties, and with future upcycling potential considered during product development.
To support your carbon-neutral strategy, your interiors consultant will work with you to identify any existing furniture or fit-out materials that can be upcycled and reused in your project.
We also collaborate with suppliers who are leaders in recycling schemes, helping clients donate furniture to local charities, upcycle it for reuse, or, as a last resort, recycle it ethically. See the video below showcasing the latest recycling innovations from Senator Office Furniture.
To meet your carbon-negative goals, new schemes are designed with future cradle-to-cradle sustainability in mind, including ESG sheets for all products and consideration of their potential for future upcycling.
